Renowned vocalist for the genre of Indian classical music, Panjit Jasraj breathed his last at New Jersey, US on Monday 17 August. He was 90 years old. A statement issued by his family which stated that the Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj Ji passed away at 5:15 EST because of cardiac arrest. He was residing in his home in New Jersey.
Many important dignitaries from the music industry and Bollywood personalities grieved over the loss of the legendary icon. They used their social media handles to express their condolences over the devastating news.

Pandit Jasraj belonged to the Mewati Gharana and his career spanned for over 80 years. He garnered nationwide as well as international recognition. He was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1975, Padma Bhushan in 1990 and Padma Vibhushan in 2000.
Some of his songs from movie soundtracks include ‘Vandana Karo’ from the film Ladki Sahyadri Ki (1996), ‘Vaada Tumse Hai Vaada’ from the film 1920 that came out in 2008. He also lent his voice for a piece based on ‘Ahir Bhairav’ for the 2012 internationally acclaimed film ‘Life of Pi’.
