
Vikram Seth’s critically acclaimed novel ‘A Suitable Boy’ recently got adapted into a series by celebrated director Mira Nair. Distributed by BBC, the series featured the story of forbidden love, passion and friendship set amidst the backdrop of a newly independent India.
Although the book got published in the year 1993, it took 27 years for this visual adaptation to finally take place. Since the novel has a stature of international recognition with its characters known to the people all over the world for the longest time, did the main cast do justice to the role they played?

Tanya Maniktala as Lata Mehra
Posing as the protagonist of the show, Tanya Maniktala played the role of Lata Mehra. The actress portrayed her character extremely well while also seeming fierce in a lot of sequences, making the show palatable for the ‘modern’ audience.
Ishaan Khatter as Maan Kapoor
Maan Kapoor is another one of the leads from the show, whose experiences and character is given equal importance as that of Lata’s. Newcomer Ishaan Khatter proved through his portrayal as Maan that he is capable of exploring a range of emotions through a single character. His role was crafted beautifully by him.
Mahira Kakkar as Mrs Mehra
Mahira Kakkar has played the role of Mrs Mehra. . Her over dramatic nature within the book is the reason for a lot of humour. The actress has been quite successful in capturing the essence of it through her portrayal.
Vijay Varma as Rasheed
Vijay Varma plays the role of Rasheed, a university student who also poses as a language tutor part-time. Although he didn’t have much screen time, his role left a lasting impact amongst the audience. There are several layers to his character that shed amazingly as the show progresses.
Tabu as Saeeda Bai
Posing as a courtesan and a gifted musician, Tabu gives a superlative performance where her pauses and silences speak more than the words ever can. Her on-screen chemistry that stars off as casual flirtation and ends up being something much deeper is also highly captivating.
